Unemployment rate ticks up in Macon County
Macon County employment officials describe the December climb in the local unemployment rate a normal pattern for the region.
The Macon County jobless rate rose from 10.9 to 11.1 percent from November to December of 2012—accordign to new information form the state’s Department of Commerce.
Despite the uptick in the unemployment rate, it still remains less than December of 2011 when it was nearly 12 percent.
According to that report, 1,732 Maconians were seeking employment in December out of the county’s labor force of 15,622.
