The 2013-2014 school calendars for Macon County Schools and the Early College were approved unanimously Monday night by the Macon County Board of Education.
Students will report to school for the first day on Monday, August 26, 2013 and the last day for the year will be Thursday, June 12, 2014.
Superintendent Dr. Jim Duncan said changes to state law are requiring a later start date.
School Board Chairman Jim Breedlove believes changes made to the calendar law make it tougher on school officials to create a calendar, “The flexibility we had is gone—and they don’t take weather waivers anymore. They basically tell us this is you when to start and this is when you’re supposed to end. They don’t tell us how to get there.”
Spring break is scheduled April 14-18.
Macon Early College students will begin the school year on Thursday, August 8, 2013 and will dismiss for the year on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
The early college calendar must be in line with Southwestern Community College’s class schedule.
The early college spring break will be March 10-14.
The 2013-2014 school calendar consists of 180 days on instruction.
