On Monday, three members of the Macon County Board of Education were officially sworn-in by Clerk of Court Vic Perry.
Incumbents Stephanie McCall of Highlands and Jim Breedlove of Franklin, and newcomer Melissa Bateman Evans, of Nantahala all took their oath of office for the coming term.
Shortly after, the school board voted to elect Jim Breedlove as chairman of the board, and Tommy Cabe as vice-chair.
Breedlove said he’s looking forward to tackling key issues with the school board, “I want to thank the board for their confidence in me. I will do the best that I can possibly do. We’re facing some hard decisions this year, so we’ll have to work together to make the right ones, and everyone will be better off for it.”
Stephanie McCall took a moment to thank Tommy Cabe for his service as chairman, “I’d like to thank Tommy for the great job he did as chairperson, and what he always stood up for.”
Vice-Chair Cabe is scheduled to undergo heart surgery December 26.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be Monday, December 10 at 6 p.m. at the Central Office.
