A 47-year-old Franklin woman is taken to the hospital following a single car wreck just after midnight on Wednesday.

According to the Bryson City Post of the N.C. Highway Patrol, the driver, identified as Martha Stamey, was traveling north on Lyle Knob Road in a 1999 Toyota SUV when her vehicle tumbled down an embankment. Troopers say Stamey went into a curve and swerved to avoid hitting a dog—that’s when the car went off the left side of the road overturned and went down the bank. The vehicle came to rest against a tree.

The Patrol indicated Stamey was belted in at the time of crash. She was taken to Angel Medical Center with just minor injuries.
