Fire destroys Franklin home

January 4, 2013

Fire ripped through a vacant home on Carvil Drive, off of Ridgecrest Heights Road, early Thursday morning.

According to Lt. Justin Setser with Franklin Fire and Rescue, crews were dispatched to the blaze around 12:30 a.m. and arrived to find the single-story home fully involved.

Setser says firemen spent nearly two hours battling the flames before it was under control, “We made an initial attack through the carport and knocked it down, but it had already vented through the roof.”

“There’s nothing really left. It’s a total loss,” he said.

Fire crews cleared the scene around 4 a.m. Thursday morning. Franklin was assisted by Mountain Valley and Cullasaja Fire Departments.

Fortunately, the home, owned by a local resident, was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Macon County Arson team is investigating.
