Fire torches Burningtown mobile home

August 26, 2013

It’s unclear what started a Thursday night fire that left a mobile home in the Burningtown community in ashes.

Crews from Burningtown Fire Department were paged to the blaze at Carson Cove Road at 8:06 p.m. after a neighbor called 911.

Burningtown Assistant Chief Kenneth McCaskill said crews arrived to find the vacant structure engulfed in flames. Firemen from Cowee and Franklin assisted Burningtown on scene as trucks had to climb a steep and difficult driveway to access the mobile home.

McCaskill said they had good access to water and adequate manpower despite the rough terrain.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials believe the home had likely been unoccupied for some time.

Fire crews were on scene for over two hours.
