Franklin woman killed in head-on crash

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says it was a head-on collision that killed a Franklin woman Tuesday afternoon.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on U.S. 23 South near Riverside in Otto. Trooper Leah McCall says 70-year Sylvia Bollick died on scene after being involved in the crash with a truck driven by 39-year old Christopher McMahan, of Sylva.

Mrs. Bollick’s husand, 76-year old Ellard Bollick, who was driving is in critical condition at Mission Hospital.

Trooper McCall indicated that the Bollicks were traveling north in the northbound lane when they were struck by McMahan who was headed south in the north bound lane. McMahan is also listed in critical condition at Mission Hospital.

Charges are pending at this time as the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
