A Macon County family that lost their 22-year old daughter in 2009 due to an overdose of alcohol and prescription drugs was awarded a $6 million judgment from the two men responsible for her death.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports a jury in Macon County Superior Court recently made the ruling in the wrongful death lawsuit against Larry Murray and Adam Hicks.
The men gave the victim Elizabeth Coram, of Highlands, powerful painkillers after she was already heavily intoxicated on July 8, 2009.
Hicks and Murray had a responsibility not to give drugs to Coram in the condition she was in, and they had a duty to get her medical help, the suit said.
Murray and Hicks did not face any charges.
The victim’s father, JB Coram says he doesn’t expect to collect the money, but he is hopeful the judgment will give hope to other families that are hit by similar tragedies.
