Ramsey, and “Cousins for a Cure” ask town to help raise awareness of pancreatic cancer
November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month and in Franklin, November 15th has been declared by town officials as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.
At 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2012, in downtown Franklin at the Gazebo, there will be a special ceremony recognizing and honors lives touched by pancreatic cancer.
Franklin resident Margaret Ramsey, who is a member of “Cousins for a Cure” requested that Franklin Aldermen proclaim the fifteenth as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. The group wants to see research of this deadly disease a higher priority.
“Unfortunately, the pancreatic cancer survival rate has not changed in over 40 years, it’s still 5 percent because there is so little research done,” Ramsey said.
Pancreatic cancer currently claims over 33,000 American lives each year.
Ramsey’s daughter, Diane Ramsey Forsyth, is currently battling the disease.
“She’s doing well. Her spirit is amazing. Her mantra is we have to reach and teach, so that’s what we’re doing with this proclamation.”
Ramsey and her support group created the website www.grititude.com to provide the public with information and links on pancreatic cancer and how to treat this illness.
