Macon’s first dialysis center to open Thursday

September 11, 2013

Franklin residents receiving dialysis will soon be able to get the critical treatment much closer to home.

A special opening is planned this Thursday at 2 p.m. for Macon County’s first ever dialysis center, which will be operated by DaVita. Major renovations just wrapped up at the facility, located in the former Carenet Thrift Store, in the Westgate Plaza.

The process of locating a dialysis center in Macon County has taken years and a lot of work.

One person instrumental in the efforts has been County Commissioner Ronnie Beale.

“As renal failure continues to be a growing problem, this will be a benefit for a long time to come. It’s an important day for these folks, who have to receive treatment now. They won’t have to endure another winter across Cowee Mountain to receive this treatment at all hours of the day and night,” he said.

Each dialysis station will feature a large flat screen TV—the facility is unlike any other built by DaVita, according to Beale.

Beale welcomes all residents to come and see the new facility on Thursday.
