Unemployment numbers for the month of May are out from the Department of Commerce and the jobless rate in Macon County continues improving.
According to that report, the unemployment rate dropped from 10.2 to 9.8 percent from April to May in Macon County.
During the month, 1556 Maconians were considered unemployed—out of the total workforce of 15,886.
The 9.8 percent rate matches May 2012 in Macon County. All counties in the far west noticed better unemployment rates in May—with the exception of Jackson and Cherokee Counties.
