An early morning mix of snow, sleet, and rain blanketed the roads in Macon County Tuesday causing school and business delays and a handful of minor accidents.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall accumulation varied throughout Macon County with 3 inches reported 9 miles west of Franklin, 2.6 in Highlands, and about an inch in the Franklin area.

Snowy roads triggered four minor accidents worked by the Highland Patrol—one injury was reported near Goldmine Road.

NCDOT crews had been out working the roads since the early morning hours. Fortunately, the temperatures did not drop enough for any significant freezing on roads.
