Nantahala Ranger facilities reopen

October 21, 2013

Most U.S. Forest Service facilities shuttered by the federal funding lapse are opening back up in the Nantahala National Forest.

In the Nantahala Ranger District, Nantahala National Forest, all recreation sites are currently open except for:

• Moss Knob shooting range, which is closed due to construction.

• Van Hook recreation areas will remain closed for the season

Cliffside recreation area near Highlands has reopened.

Many facilities operated by the forest service have been closed over two weeks during the shutdown and one of the most popular times of the year for visitors to the National Forest areas.

You can contact the Forest Service for additional information.
