NCDOT gearing up for potential icy roads

January 24, 2013

Another round of winter weather is being forecasted for the western mountains and across much of North Carolina. This has NCDOT crews cranking up the trunks in preparation for what could be icy conditions on Friday.

Steve Abbott at NCDOT says crews will be dumping brine onto major roadways ahead of the winter precipitation, “Drivers will notice the brining will stick to the roads and will still be there Friday and prevent anything from freezing, like black ice. If there is any accumulation of snow, it makes it easier for the plows to come through.”

A winter storm watch has been issued for western North Carolina from late Thursday into Friday with the possibility of freezing rain and ice accumulation.
