New connector to alleviate traffic near SCC’s Jackson Campus

Traffic congestion near the Jackson Campus of Southwestern Community College is expected to improve as the NCDOT announced plans for a connector road near the school.

A $15.9 million contract was awarded to a Michigan construction company to const

ruct a new 0.7-mile two-lane road connecting N.C. 107 and N.C. 116 in Sylva.

The new road will alleviate congestion at the N.C. 107 and N.C. 116 intersection by providing an alternate route. The project also includes construction of an overpass above N.C. 107 with on- and off-ramps.

Work can begin as early as Dec. 31 and is scheduled for completion by April 26, 2016.
