Rains delay schools, prompt landslide

Rivers and streams are overflowing this morning as rain continues to drench the western North Carolina Mountains.

Macon County Schools are on a two-hour delay this morning, and the National Weather Service has extended the flood watch through Thursday evening for Macon and surrounding counties.

Heavy rains triggered a landslide on Cowee Mountain Tuesday night. Macon County EMS tells us the slide occurred at approximately 10 p.m. in the Watuaga Visit area on Pioneer Trail. The landslide came down onto the garage of one home temporarily trapping the occupants. The local fire department assisted and everyone was able to get out safely. No other homes were affected.
