Town tables decision on indoor gun range

May 13, 2013

Franklin aldermen are not quite ready to make changes to a town ordinance that would permit a gun range within town limits.

After being approached by a citizen asking for permission to open a gun range, town leaders have considered adding a provision to allow discharge of firearms within indoor gun ranges that are properly permitted.

At the May 6th town board meeting, Franklin’s town planner Derek Roland informed aldermen that no special zoning treatment exists for indoor gun ranges therefore ranges could come up in areas zoned for indoor recreation facilities C2, C3 and Industrial.

“When permit it in C2, you’re allowing in a lot of other places in town—quite a large area,” he said.

The board voted to table the matter for now.
