Weather leaves mark on Macon County this week

There’s not much snow to talk about here in the Franklin area, but the aftermath of a week of heavy rains, combined with blustery winds, and added freezing temperatures has resulted in over 200 power outages in Macon County this morning.

Emergency crews have been busy with reports of several downed trees and power lines across the county, particularly in the Cowee Community.

Mudslides and fallen power lines blocked portions of Ellijay Road on Thursday, and in the Nantahala Community a 200 yard wide landslide is being reported.

As of Friday, January 18,  here are the past four day rainfall totals from the National Weather Service:

Wallace Gap: 10.11 in
Highlands: 8.10 in
Needmore: 7.07 in
Mullberry: 6.39 in
Franklin: 6.24 in
