Plans are moving along for the replacement of the county-owned swimming pool that is nearly 40 years old.

County Commissioners approved some additional options for the forthcoming pool and pool house at their meeting January 14. The additions include a heater for the pool, as well as the slide, and fencing, which will be a combination of rod iron and link fencing.

County Commission Chair Kevin Corbin says adding the heater will create new opportunities for pool use, “We’ll have the ability to open the pool earlier and keep it open later. Also it opens up for the swim teams to use it a longer part of the year.”

Corbin says only one part of the project is left to bid, and that is the concrete work. He expects the pool to be ready to open this spring.

“The bathhouse is supposed to be completed by mid-February, and the pool project itself is to be completed by the end of March. We’ll be able to open the pool by sometime in April.”

There has been no indication of when the pool will officially open to the public.

Commissioners approved the new pool project in 2012 at a cost of around $546,000.
