Heavy rains, strong winds coming to WNC
The weather picture has been sort of unpredictable this month in Western North Carolina—forecasters now say another round of heavy rains and strong winds are on the way.
A strong cold front is sweeping into the Southern Appalachian region early Wednesday and will likely spawn rain showers that will intensify throughout the day. The system could produce thunderstorms along with periods of heavy rainfall.
The National Weather Service has issued flood watch and high wind watch effective Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening for Western North Carolina and Northeast Georgia.
Forecasters say winds from the southwest could range from 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph before diminishing Wednesday evening.
The weather picture could shift again late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A chance of snow is possible as temperatures fall Wednesday night.
