Mountains expected to get another round of winter weather

Precipitation and falling temperatures are expected bring in more winter weather for Macon and surrounding counties over the next 24 hours.

A fast moving cold front is moving into the southwestern mountains of North Carolina bringing precipitation and temperatures cold enough to create a mix of snow and sleet.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area beginning at midnight tonight until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters expect a light wintry mix to begin around midnight, then, change to snow before becoming sleet and freezing rain Tuesday morning. Light snow accumulation is possible along with ice accumulation of about one-tenth of an inch.

On Saturday evening, roads throughout Macon County quickly iced over after a round of snow fell in the area. Several accidents were reported in various locations across the county.
