County manager search underway

Macon County officials say potential candidates for the county’s next manager are submitting their applications.

The position was advertised shortly after Jack Horton, current manager, announced he will retire in October.

County Human Resources Director Mike Decker provided county commissioners with an update on the manager search—saying the job has been advertised in five different areas including the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, North Carolina League of Municipalities and the Macon County website.

Decker noted that as of August 13, 17 applications for county manager had been received. The job will remain advertised until it is filled, commissioners said.

A special retirement reception has been planned for Horton on Friday, September 27, from 2-4 p.m. at the Southwestern Community College Annex.
