Catamounts Prepare for 2017 Season, Camp Now Open

Western Carolina’s football student-athletes, many still enrolled and involved in the second semester of summer school, officially report for the start of the 2017 preseason camp on Monday as preparations for the much-anticipated 2017 season ramp-up ahead of Tuesday’s first practice session.

The Catamounts open camp with the first of two helmet-only practices in the acclimation period on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 3:45 pm on the turf at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field.

Monday’s report date schedule includes many of the necessities from checking into residence halls, meeting with Steven Honbarger and his Sports Medicine staff, as well as with Mike Taylor and the Athletic Equipment staff, all coming in-and-around classes. The first official day also includes an orientation team meeting Monday evening.

Western Carolina’s preseason football schedule features 28 total practices, 20 of which will be held before fall cases commence on Monday, Aug. 21 with the final two practices of the preseason prior to the season-opener to be held at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Thursday, Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 1. The preseason docket also includes a trio of intrasquad scrimmages: Saturday, Aug. 12, brief scrimmage on Wednesday, Aug. 16, and the annual “Meet the Cats” scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 19.
