Franklin, Swain, and Cherokee Prepare for Round 2, Smoky’s Season Comes to an End
Round 1 of high school football playoff action is in the books.
The Franklin Panthers will continue playing, after beating the Smoky Mountain Mustangs at the Panther Pit on Friday night, 52-27. Franklin will now play host to Pisgah, in another regular season re-match. The Panthers were able to beat the Black Bears in Canton back on October 27th, 17-13.
For Smoky Mountain, the season comes to an end after falling to Franklin for the second straight week. The Mustangs finish the 2017 campaign with a 5-7 record.
The Cherokee Braves had a first round bye to start off the playoffs. The Braves opponent this week will be Union Academy, a team that the Braves beat in the playoffs last season. Cherokee will be playing host to Union Academy on Friday.
The Swain County Maroon Devils advance to the second round, after taking care of Cherryville, 42-14 in Bryson City. Swain will be on the road in the second round, traveling to take on Bessemer City, who is 10-1 on the year, and coming off of a first round bye.
