Round 1 of Playoff Basketball in the Books
Tuesday Night marked the first round of the state high school basketball tournament, and signaled the end of the season for many teams, while others advanced to round 2.
In 2A Boys action, the Franklin Panthers lost on the road at Pisgah, 67-57. Smoky Mountain fell on the road against West Stokes, 95-67.
In the 2A Girls bracket, Smoky Mountain came away with a 72-42 win over Forest Hills in Sylva.
On the 1A Boys side, Cherokee had a bye in the first round, while Nantahala fell at South Stokes, 73-28. Highlands saw their season come to a close on the road against the Community School of Davidson, 62-35.
In 1A Girls action, Cherokee held serve at home and advanced to the second round with a 71-52 win over Hiwassee Dam. Highlands came away victorious 61-51 at home against Blue Ridge Early College.
In the second round on Thursday, the Cherokee Boys will play host to the Community School of Davidson, the Cherokee Girls will travel to take on Gray Stone Day, the Highlands Girls will be on the road taking on Lincoln Charter, and the Smoky Mountain Lady Mustangs will be playing host to Ledford Senior.
