Clingmans Dome Observation Tower Closed thru June 15th
The Clingmans Dome Observation Tower in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be closed through the end of this week as crews complete a rehabilitation project that began last year. Contractors have repaired deteriorated areas on the concrete columns and walls along with stabilizing support walls at the base of the ramp. National park officials say that to complete the project they must apply a final surface overlay along the tower ramp.
The Clingmans Dome parking overlook area however will remain open. The visitor contact station and store, the trail to the tower and all accesses to area trailheads will be open as well.
This work is funded through a $250,000 grant from Partners in Preservation awarded to Friends of the Smokies in 2016.
